Boxer Breed
The official standard for the Boxer of the American Kennel Club says that the Boxer is a medium-sized, sturdy dog, of square built, with short, tight-fitting coat. The gait is springy.
HEAD: The Boxer's head, especially the powerful muzzle, is his most striking and distinctive feature. The head should be free from deep wrinkles, folds normally appear on the forehead, when the ears are erect. The dark mas is in dstinct contrast to the color of the head. The Boxer is normally undershot: the lower jaw protrudes beyond the upper and curves slightly upward. The top of the skull is slightly arched, not flat or rotund. The nose is always black. The eyes are of medium size. The haw of the eyelid should not be visible. When the haw can be seen, it is usually the result of lips too heavy or too long. The eyes should be as dark as possible.m Light yellow eyes, dribbling, showing of teeth or tongue, muzzle too pointed or slight, pale nose leather, lack of pigment in haw are penalized.
NECK: Round, not too short, muscular and without dewlap.
BACK: Short, straight and muscular.
CHEST AND FOREQUARTERS: The ribs are well arched, but not barrel-shaped. The shoulders are long and sloping. Feet should be compact, turning neither in or out, with tightly arched toes (cat feet) and tough pads. Bowed-out elbows, chest too large or too narrow are penalized.
HINDQUARTERS: The thighs are broad and muscular, croup slightly sloped, flat and broad. Viewed from behind, the rear legs should be straight, with the hock joints leaning neither in or out. The rear toes are a little longer than the front toes. Dewclaws, if any, may be removed. The tail is set high. Too narrow or too rounded legs, tail set too low are penalized.
HEIGHT: Males - 22.5-25 inches, females - 21-23 inches at the withers.
COAT: Short, shiny, lying smooth and tight to the body.
COLOR: The colors are fawn and brindle. The fawn color varies from light tan to dark deer red or mahogany. The brindle color should have clearly defined black stripes on fawn background. White markings on fawn and brindle colors are permitted, but should not exceed one third of the ground color and are not desirable on the back. White may replace part of the black mask on the face. Stripes (brindling) too close together or too sparse, whole white head or white on one side of the head are penalized.
TEMPERAMENT: Boxer is alert, self-assured and playful, patient and sociable with children, wary with strangers, courageous and protective. Cowerdice, shyness, aggression towards people or viciousness are faults.
DISQUALIFYING FAULTS: Boxers with white or black ground color, or entirely white or black, any color other than fawn and brindle.
